October 22 , 2011 Black Hawk Creek Water Trail Information Meeting 10am Hudson Public Library, 401 5th St, Hudson, IA, 50643 John Wenck with the Iowa DNR will hold an informational meeting on the Black Hawk Creek Water Trail and review the state water trail program. The meeting will be held at 10am on Saturday, October 22, at the Hudson Public Library. A cleanup has been scheduled following the meeting.
October 22 , 2011 Black Hawk Creek Clean Up 9:30am - 3:30pm Robinson Bird Sanctuary parking lot off of Ranchero Road near Black Hawk Creek Join the Hartman Reserve Nature Center staff and a number of other Iowa paddling organizations for a day of hands-on conservation. An easy way to help nature and your community is to participate in a River Clean Up. We will meet at Robinson Bird Sanctuary parking lot off of Ranchero Road near Black Hawk Creek at 9:30am SHARP. We will then shuttle down to Hudson. We will attend an informational public meeting about Black Hawk Creek beginning at 10am at the Hudson Public Library. After the meeting we will begin the clean up around 12:30pm. Beginners are welcome.
This program will require getting in and out of the canoe, as well as walking along the river bank; so be sure to dress appropriately (wear old clothes and bring work gloves and a water bottle) Please bring a sack lunch. Other organizations will be continuing on to the second portion of Black Hawk Creek. If you intend on doing the entire stretch of Black Hawk Creek please meet at the Hudson landing (Frank Park) and make accommodations for your own transportation back to you vehicle. You are welcome to bring your own boat! October 29th will be the alternate rain out/flood date. This is a free event. You must pre-register by October 20 th if you want to use Hartman’s transportation services and use a Hartman canoe. Hartman staff will only be able to provide transportation and canoes for 10 individuals. For questions please contact hartmanreserve.co.black-hawk.ia.us.
November 5, 2011 Trail Trimming at George Wyth State Park 9am - noon In preparation for the up coming winter season a trail trimming session is planned for Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9:00 a.m. to noon in George Wyth State Park. Please bring loppers and bow saws (but no chainsaws) and we will trim branches and brush back from the trails. For those that don’t have any loppers or bow saws we will have a few extra on hand.
We will meet at the parking lot across from the camp ground entrance. Plan on starting promptly at 9:00 a.m. In case of rain we will postpone the event to the following Saturday on Nov. 12. Anyone with questions can call Jerry at 266-6165.
November 12 , 2011 11:30am sharp Mulligan's Brick Oven Grill, 205 East 18th Street, Cedar Falls, www.cvast.org What's Cranksgiving you ask? Cranksgiving is an event that takes place over all the United States on the weekend-ish before Thanksgiving. It's part charity food drive, part low-key bike race, 100% fun. All proceeds and food items benefit the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. Click here for details.
