11am Senior Cruise

Supported by sponsorships from Friendship Village, Western Home Communities and Cedar Falls Community Center. Seniors will enjoy a delicious lunch, then take a narrated tour of the Cedar Valley Trails in the comfort of motorized vans. It's a great chance to see the trailside prairie plantings, rife with flowers. Cost is $5 and pre-registration through the Cedar Falls Community Center (319) 859-3289) is required.

5:30pm Opening Ceremonies

Sponsored by the Cedar Falls Tourism and Visitors Bureau. Celebrate the beginning of the 16th Annual Cedar Valley Trails Festival and help dedicate Waterloo's new Boathouse! Hear about newly completed trail connections and enhancements, and get a preview of the weekend's activities!

4pm-7pm Dog Walk TWO LOCATIONS THIS YEAR!

Sponsored by Taylor Veterinary Hospital and Pawsitive Pet Care. Bring your dog out and enjoy the trails on foot! Don't have a dog? Come walk one of the adoptable dogs from the Cedar Bend Humane Society. Dog walkers must be 14 years of age or accompanied by an adult.

3pm-8pm Volksmarch NEW THIS YEAR!

Sponsored by the Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau. Come join us for a volksmarch, a "people's walk", along the riverside trails in downtown Waterloo. Choose a 5K or 10K route that showcases the lovely Cedar River Walk, then return to Lincoln Park to enjoy a volks-fest - the Friday'Loo celebration of live music, food and fun.

7am Cedar Valley Trails Festival 5K Run

Get off to a racing start with this sanctioned event organized by Trekman Racing. Go for speed or take your time: it's a beautiful course through the trails around Big Woods Lake. Pre-registration is required. On-line registration is now closed, but walk-up registrations will be taken in the park from 5:30am to 6:45am. Click here for a form!

8am-10am Pancake Breakfast

Fuel up with Chris Cakes! Sponsored by Bike Tech, Runner's Flat and Sartori Memorial Hospital. Community Main Street will be serving up a Community Breakfast of Chris Cakes pancakes in Gateway Park Shelter. Pancakes, sausages and beverages start your day right! Also, be sure to check out the Dog Days of Summer Sidewalk Sale - all day long in downtown Cedar Falls.

 

9am - 11am Bicycle Safety Rodeo

Sponsored by Black Hawk County Conservation and Bike Tech. Kids! Come test your cycling safety skills with local Park Rangers and law enforcement officers. Free bicycle inspections, too, to make sure your ride is in top condition!

10am Tour de Valley Ride

Sponsored by Scheels All Sports. New routes, designed for all ages! Bring the little ones for the 5-mile Family Fun Ride. Enjoy the Cedar Valley's most popular trails on the 25-mile Recreation Ride. Or seek out new trails on the 40-mile Explorer's Round. All registered riders will be eligible to win a new bike from Scheels! Rides start at 10am.

10am Waterloo Jaycees Canoe Race NEW THIS YEAR!

Coordinated by the Waterloo Jaycees and sponsored by Crawdaddy Outdoors. Venture off the hard-surface trails onto the liquid ones! The 31st annual Waterloo Jaycees Canoe Cedarloo takes you onto the Cedar River Waterlo Trail for a 7.5 mile Canoe Race, or for those less competitive, a Paddler's Pace River Run, open to kayakers and canoeists of all ages. 1:30pm Dirty Ride NEW THIS YEAR!

Coordinated by the Cedar Valley Association for Soft Trails. Explore the Cedar Valley's soft trails system and get a little dirty! Bring your mountain bike and enjoy some single-track fun through the woods, gullies, and floodways of the Cedar River Valley. This ride will take you places you may not have seen before!

Mulligan's Brick Oven Grill & Pub, 205 E. 18th Street, Cedar Falls

 

7pm-10pm Light Up the Night Ride

Sponsored by Europa Cycle and Ski and coordinated by the Cedar Falls Junior Chamber (Jaycees) with assistance from Martin Brothers Distributing. Gather before dusk to enjoy the pre-ride music of Bob Dorr and the Blue Band, sponsored by the Hearst Center for the Arts. Then enjoy a magical bike ride along trails lined by glowing luminaries, under moonlit skies. Ride begins at dusk (approximately 9pm). Bike lights and helmets are required. Cedar Trails Patrol members will be monitoring trails for safety.

11am Poker Ride

Sponsored by Bike Tech. A game of poker, fabulous prizes for the best hands! Draw your cards from merchants near the trails, and bring them back to Mulligans for prize drawings. Special prize drawings for all those under age 21. $10 fee ($5 if your wear your Festival t-shirt)! The game starts at 11am at Mulligan's Brick Oven Grill & Pub, 205 E. 18th Street, Cedar Falls. Supported also by Starbucks and Mulligans.
